Solo Stove is working on solving a common problem with smokeless fire pits. The heat goes straight up, rather than warming the people sitting around the fire. They've improved it with their Heat Deflector, but they appear to be looking for a solution with the fire pit itself.

The new design that they're developing allows more radiant heat to escape the sides of the pit for more lateral heat. Solo Stove has promised five new innovations this year, and it's possible that this could be one of them.

There's a new study that was published this week that theorizes that early humans used fire for smoking meat to preserve it. That would put the earliest barbecue at around 1.8 million to 800,000 years ago. Rather than beef though they were serving up elephants, rhinos, and hippos.

Pitts & Spitts has released a colorful new touchscreen controller for their Maverick pellet grill line. The best part is they made it backwards compatible. Pitts & Spitts makes grills to last a long time, and this lets all existing Maverick owners to upgrade to the latest tech.

AMD Direct is continuing to push for growth with their brands. They signed with a new distributor for the Western US. The new distributor has an existing relationship with their Summerset grill brand and will take over the relationships that were previously direct.

Finally, the Weber Summit smart gas grill that was released last year was a leader in digital control of a gas grill. It can be controlled with an onboard touchscreen or the Weber app on your phone. It’s fitting that they have just earned a 2025 Red Dot award for design.
